VIRGINIA BEACH --- Police say a Hampton man was killed when he tried to rob a pizza parlor Saturday night.

Workers at Dominick's Pizza and Pasta in the Timberlake Shopping Center on Holland Road told 13News a masked man came in through a back entrance brandishing a gun and demanding cash around 10:00 p.m. Saturday.

According to the store owner, he opened the safe and took out a loaded revolver instead of money, returned to the suspect and opened fire.

By the time officers arrived, they say Johnny Marocco Williams was already dead.

There are currently no charges against the storeowner. Williams, 41, is from Hampton.

On Monday, the neon sign at Dominick's flickers "open for business."

The owner says he shot in self-defense.

He also says he's glad everything's okay at the store, but he is still shaken about taking a life.

Customer Josh White understands why the owner took the action.

"Anybody would have done the same thing to protect a young woman and yourself," he said.
