NORFOLK -- A five-day, 53-mile march for peace ended Friday somewhat less than peacefully.

Two of the demonstrators were taken into custody at Naval Station Norfolk.

Terrie Davis, spokeswoman for the base, released the following statement to 13News:

“At 2 p.m. today, two males, who were part of a protest group, entered government property in violation of their City of Norfolk approved permit to demonstrate.  When repeatedly asked to leave, they refused and were taken into custody by Naval Station Norfolk Security without incident.  They have been escorted from the base with a federal citation and letter of exclusion, barring them from the base.”

“The Road to No War” march began Monday outside Camp Perry near Williamsburg.

Throughout the week, the war resistors, as they call themselves, walked to and held vigils outside 13 Hampton Roads military installations and defense contractors.

Until today, there’d been no incidents.
