The boat was damaged when it struck the center piling of the Bonner Bridge.
DARE COUNTY, NC -- A 70-foot recreational boat struck the center piling of the Bonner Bridge Thursday morning.
The boat, with two people aboard, was going out for the day when it struck the piling on its starboard side, said LTJG Scott Hembrook, Public Affairs Officer at Sector North Carolina in Atlantic Beach.
He says the boat returned to Blue Water Marina in Wanchese.
A field sobriety test was negative for alcohol, he added.
There was no apparent damage to the bridge, but the North Carolina Dept. of Transportation is investigating.
