Family intends to sue over death of nursing home patient in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG – The family of a former nursing home client says they're intending to sue the facility over her death.
84-year-old Lorina Wiggins died in April at the hospital a week after being admitted from Ruxton Health.
Her family’s charging the facility with abuse and neglect, claiming Wiggins developed a number of bedsores on her leg that created an infection.
A report from the Va. Department of Health now cites the facility for regulatory problems and has ordered officials to turn in a plan for correcting the problems. In the report, Wiggins' care was called "deficient" and it noted a failure to report in a timely manner significant changes in her condition.
Police confiscated all paperwork associated with Wiggins’ care during her stay at Ruxton. The commonwealth's attorney says he's still waiting for a report from an independent doctor before deciding whether any criminal charges should be placed.
Her son says his attorney filed a letter of intent to sue for civil damages.
