Freon removed from AC units at Va. Beach apartment complex
05:33 PM EDT on Monday, June 1, 2009
VIRGINIA BEACH – Someone removed the Freon from AC units at a Virginia Beach apartment complex.
It happened last week at Marina Shores.
Police are investigating a similar incident nearby off of Shore Drive.
Residents began noticing the air conditioning units weren't working and mechanics found the drained Freon.
Police don't know why the units were drained, but if the person were re-using the chemical, it would require special equipment to remove it.
In one of the cases, the condenser also was taken.
Air conditioning experts say the Freon could have been taken and used for huffing.
Police say they have no suspects.
