Emporia helps single mother rebuild after tornado
05:14 PM EDT on Thursday, May 29, 2008
EMPORIA -- Joyce Macklin, a single mother, was home the day a tornado went directly over her home.
The powerful winds tore off the roof, letting in rain that destroyed nearly everything she owned.
At the time, Macklin, a ten-year employee of Beach Mold and Tool, was making improvements on her house so it would meet code and she could get insurance.
But the storm struck before the work was done, so the tornado damage wasn’t covered.
Her employer of 10 years, Beach Mold and Tool, co-workers and the community are helping rebuild her home.
