PORTSMOUTH -- Police Friday released the name of a man killed in an officer-involved shooting Thursday night.
Christopher W. Bacome, 29, of the 5200 block of Patriot Drive in Toldeo, Ohio, was shot inside an apartment on Gateway Drive in Churchland.
Police say they received a call around 7:00 p.m. from someone in Ohio who said their son was going to kill himself.
When police arrived, they say Bacome was locked in the bathroom and they saw large amounts of blood on the floor.
Ann Hope, spokeswoman for the Portsmouth Police Department, says the officers tried to get into the bathroom but he came out with a knife.
An officer tried to get the man to put down the knife, Hope said, adding Bacome lunged at the officer, so the officer opened fire.
"This is normally something that I would see on TV, like, in a movie somehwere," said Nakita Barnette. "I've never seen this before."
When Portsmouth EMS arrived, Bacome was declared dead.
An investigation is underway.
