Storm causes $250,000 damage in James City County, officials report

JAMES CITY COUNTY -- While Suffolk suffered massive damage from Monday’s tornado, it wasn’t the only locality that was hit by the violent storms.
In James City County, fire officials say damage there is estimated at a quarter of a million dollars, mostly from trees falling on homes.
Damage assessment teams are on the ground out in the Windsor Forrest subdivision, near Olde Towne Road and Longhill Road.
Officials tell 13News they received reports that a funnel cloud was spotted in that area Tuesday.
In Gloucester County, downed trees looked like snapped matchsticks. They were the main problem in the courthouse area.
The sheriff’s department said a trailer was knocked off its foundation and a barn’s roof was peeled away.
Major Darrell Warren stressed there is no significant residential damage, no injuries were reported and no one was displaced.
In Smithfield, the Western Tidewater Health District clinic at 402 Grace St. is closed due to damage, according to a health department spokesman. Some windows blew out and there was minor flooding, said Larry Hill.
