Research facility in NC damaged in Monday's storm

BERTIE CO., NC -- Winds from an afternoon storm damaged a state research facility in Lewiston Woodville.
County officials said the storm blew a roof blew off a barn, snapped utility poles in half and toppled trees near the Peanut Belt Research Station.
Two buildings destroyed, two others were damaged. Power lines and transformers were blown down.
Trees fell onto two cars and one struck a home across the street.
The research supervisor at the facility at the time said he took cover in his pickup truck.
There is also damage reported to a grain silo.
One witness described seeing rotation in the sky minutes before the wind picked up around 12:30 p.m. Monday.
There were no reports of injuries.
