Chesapeake sisters selling cereal shaped like Illinois

CHICAGO (AP) -- Sounds a little flaky, but someone has offered more than $6,000 on eBay for a piece of breakfast cereal that is touted as a lookalike to the state of Illinois.

Two sisters from Chesapeake listed "The Great Illinois Corn Flake" on the online auction site, promising it has undergone no alterations.

Emily McIntire, a 15-year-old high school sophomore, said she was grabbing fistfuls of Frosted Flakes on her way to class when she found the flake shaped like Illinois.

"We turned it in our hands, and I was like, 'Hey, it's Illinois,' and I showed my sister," said Emily.

Her 23-year-old sister, Melissa, said their parents suggested selling it for fun. They're offering free shipping to Illinois.

"I basically tried to tout the wonderful awesomeness that is the Great Illinois Cornflake," said Melissa.

That "wonderful awesomeness" has attracted some big bids. Each time the McIntire girls refresh the website, the number jumps, climbing from $10 to more than $6,000.

"I've been amazed and overwhelmed," said Melissa. "It's been hard to keep up with it."

"If someone said it would be a thousand dollars today, I would have sayd, 'You're crazy,'" said Emily.

The McIntire sisters say they've decided to use the proceeds from the eBay sale to buy more boxes of Frosted Flakes.

"You never know what you're going to find," said Melissa. "I think we're all going to look and be a little bit more cautious about what we're eating."
