FRANKLIN – Police have charged two men with murder in January.

Rockne Butler and Dennis Blount were already charged in a pursuit that occurred January 23, hours after the killing in which authorities say the pair opened fire on an officer.

Butler, 39, of Pantego, North Carolina, faces charges of attempted capital murder of a police officer, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and providing false identity to police.

Blount, 29, of Washington, NC, is charged with possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony and felony eluding police.

The pursuit ended when their vehicle crashed into the wall that surrounds a home on 2nd Avenue and S. High Street, not far from where the S. High Street home where Brad Harris was murdered that morning.

Investigators now say the two were involved in the Harris' murder and have been indicted on first degree murder charges.

Butler and Blount are in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond.
