CURRITUCK CO, NC -- The county’s only skatepark would have to moved to make room for the future expansion of the Currituck Regional Airport.
"It's part of the county's long-term plans for the airport," said spokesman Randall Edwards.
Officials have scheduled two public meetings – on Feb. 2 and Feb. 9 -- to look at alternative sites for two skate parks to replace the Maple Skate.
Knotts Island Skate Park
February 2 -7:00 p.m. at Knotts Island Ruritan Building
Sound Park Skate Park
February 9 - 7:00 p.m. at Powells Point Senior Center
According to Jason Weeks, director of Currituck Co. Parks and Recreation, work on the Knotts Island Skatepark could begin in March and work on the Sound Park Skatepark would follow in April.
Both should be completed by June 30 and each will have a $75,000.00 dollar budget, Weeks noted.
