6-year-old turns in wad of cash found on Chuck E. Cheese's floor

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- When a Chuck E. Cheese's manager wanted to talk to Jonneen Adkins about something her 6-year-old son had done, she expected bad news.

"She kept asking me to come to the office, and I kept saying, 'Please tell me what he did,' but she wouldn't tell me until I came with her," Adkins told the Daily Press.

Adkins, of Newport News, was pleasantly surprised when she learned that her child had committed a commendable act of honesty.

Shane Cole Lilly was playing games at the Chuck E. Cheese's in Hampton when he spotted a large wad of cash on the floor. He picked it up and immediately asked a nearby man if he had dropped the money. The man took Shane Cole to restaurant manager Denice Hodge, and the child told her where he'd found the cash.

The $301 belonged to another patron who had just cashed her weekly paycheck and was relieved to have the money returned.

"We're very proud of him," Adkins said of her son. "You never know how they'll react in a situation like that, but he did the right thing."

When asked who taught him to be so honest, the boy simply responded, "God."

"We think he's awesome," Hodge said. "I wish everyone that's grown up was as honest as he is."

As a reward, Hodge gave him a cupful of tokens to use on more games. He got none of the $301 from the money's owner.
