Bon Secours guarantees 30 minutes or less at emergency rooms

NORFOLK – A local hospital group is guaranteeing its emergency room response.
Bon Secours Hampton Roads says your wait will be no longer than 30 minutes. If not, you’ll be given movie passes and a letter of apology.
"We figured a movie was a nice thing to do for somebody coming in that we didn't make the goal. Gives them a night out and movies aren't cheap anymore," says Dan Duggan, executive vice president/administrator.
The issue, however, is a serious one for Bon Secours. Officials say speed doesn’t mean poor care or inattention to patient care. They stress this effort has been in the works for six months so they can guarantee the ER service.
Michael K. Kerner, CEO, Bon Secours Hampton Roads, said, “Not only will more timely treatment help improve patient outcomes, it also demonstrates that we are respectful of our patient’s time and that we better understand their needs in an emergency when anxiety levels can be high.”
Participating in the guarantee are Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, 150 Kingsley Lane, Norfolk; Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, 3636 High Street, Portsmouth; Mary Immaculate Hospital, 2 Bernardine Drive, Newport News and Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View, 5818 Harbour View Blvd, Suffolk.
