Update: Dogs found dead in Hampton dumpster may have been used in dogfighting
09:51 AM EST on Tuesday, January 13, 2009
HAMPTON -- The bodies of two pit bull dogs found in a dumpster on January 5 may have been used in dog fighting, investigators say.
The two female pit bulls were wrapped in a piece of carpet and in the trash can behind Maaco body shop on W. Pembroke Avenue, said Cpl. Allison Good with the Hampton Police Dept.
The dogs did not belong to Maaco.
A necropsy revealed each dog had multiple injuries to their front legs, shoulders, neck and head that were consistent with animal bites. Both dogs had been shot in the head, which caused their deaths.
Animal control officers are currently working an animal cruelty investigation and looking into the possibility that these dogs were used for dog fighting purposes.
