One killed, another injured in early-morning crash

VIRGINIA BEACH - One person was killed, and another injured following an overnight accident in Virginia Beach.
The accident happened around 1:20 a.m. Saturday, near the intersection of Birdneck Road and Beautiful Street. According to Adam Bernstein of the Virginia Beach Police Department, an officer noticed a vehicle driving erratically, swerving and hitting orange barrels on the side of the road. The officer followed the vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop for a suspected DUI.
The driver of the vehicle then made a U-turn, and sped off. The officer followed, but did not pursue, and lost sight of the driver. The officer eventually found the vehicle, which had crashed.
An early investigation reveals that the car ran off the road and flipped several times. One person was ejected from the vehicle, and died at the scene. A second person was taken to a local hospital, and is currently in stable condition. Bernstein says it is unknown whether the driver or passenger was killed, and also said that speed is a factor.
