SUFFOLK – After more than 14 years, police say they got their man in a murder investigation.
From Suffolk Police Dept.
Alim Naqi An'nur aka Shane Whitfield
Alim Naqi An’nur aka Shane Whitfield is now charged in the February 26, 1994 shooting of 15-year-old Domoniky Mizzelle. He was struck in the head around 10:30 p.m. and died at the hospital.
An archive story from 13News' partners at the Virginian Pilot stated a large, possibly four-door, light-colored car was seen speeding away.
The initial investigation went cold but had recently heated up when eyewitnesses to the shooting at Factory Street and Kissimmee Avenue came forward.
Captain Stephanie Burch credits the hard work of the investigator in the year-old Cold Case Unit for the arrest. “We are thrilled at the work that this newly formed unit is doing,” advised Burch. “By bringing these offenders to justice, this unit has brought some sense of closure to a number of victims’ families. That is the most rewarding aspect of our profession”, she added.
Whitfield was arrested at his workplace in Alexandria. He’s being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of murder, shooting from a vehicle and shoot, cut, stab or wound.
