NORFOLK -- After several months of investigating, Norfolk Police say officers arrested 9 Old Dominion University students for drug charges.
The arrests were made after search warrants were served at houses on Westover Avenue, West 48th Street, West 49th Street, Mayflower Avenue and West 41st Street.
Elijah Walsh lives right across the street from one of the houses that was raided on West 49th Street.
He wasn't surprised by the busts.
"I feel like it's a common thing. drugs are on a lot of college campuses," said Walsh who is also a sophomore at ODU.
A spokesperson for ODU said that none of the arrests happened on campus or were in university housing.
In an email statement the school officials released this statement on the arrests.
“Old Dominion University supports and cooperates with Norfolk Police to the fullest extent to ensure the safety and well-being of our campus community. These alleged acts are not how we expect our students to behave and are not indicative of the vast majority of our 24,000-plus student body. ODU takes very seriously these issues and has a proactive approach to student education of the dangers and consequences involved in such behavior. We have regular resident hall sessions, free health education services, peer educator programs, drug and alcohol awareness week of activities each fall, and sessions for both students and their parents in our orientation program. The outreach and education begins before students even start their freshman year and does not end until they graduate from our campus. While we cannot comment on specific cases, the university has a judicial process that may impose penalties including expulsion for students who violate our stringent drug and alcohol policies," said Ellen Neufeldt, Vice President, Student Engagement and Enrollment Services.
Another suspect was also arrested in the sting that is not an ODU student.
Officers say the investigation is ongoing.
On Friday, police reelased the names and photos of those arrested. The list is below:
