PORTSMOUTH-- Portsmouth firefighters rescued a woman Monday afternoon after she drove her vehicle into a marsh.

Officials say the woman drove 400 feet into the swampy water off California Avenue, in the Alexander's Corner area of the city.

Fire units arrived, assessed the situation, and using backboards as stepping stones, they were able to walk the driver out of the marsh to safety.

The woman was not complaining of any injuries but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
