NORFOLK - A tractor-trailer went through the guardrail on I-64 East east of Fourth View near Bay Avenue in Norfolk early Friday.
The right lane has been blocked since about 6:00 a.m. and at 8:30 a.m., both lanes were closed so wreckers could remove the rig.
By 9:20 a.m., traffic was moving on one lane, but the backup was more than five miles, causing traffic troubles on the Peninsula. Some drivers were using the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel to avoid the stoppage.
According to police motorist assistance patrol, the driver is okay.
Va. State Police say the trailer was empty.
Authorities are investigating what caused the driver to crash.
