VIRGINIA BEACH -- It's a twist on the traditional Halloween pumpkin.
Classroom teachers, art teacher Amber Hester and Library Media Specialist Susan Hardesty have teamed up with students at John B. Dey Elementary School to create Literary Pumpkins.
Each class read a favorite book and came up with a plan for decorating a pumpkin to look like one of the book characters. Some are done and some are in progress.
The Art teachers, Library Media Specialist and parent volunteers have worked in art class to make the creations.
The pumpkins will be on display in the library to promote literature. At the end of the month, the students will vote for their favorite.
