CURRITUCK CO.-- Nobody was injured when a grain silo collapsed across a Norfolk Southern Railway line on Battlefield Blvd. in Moyock, N.C. Tuesday.
According to Currituck County spokesperson Randal Edwards, the silo, which is owned by Currituck Grain Company, collapsed around 5 p.m.
Operations on the Chesapeake and Albermarle Railroad in that area ceased during the cleanup. Safety assessments will be made on both the tracks and the remaining silos, Edwards said.
"We have had a gas leak that was addressed by Virginia Natural Gas and also Dominion Virginia Power responded to check for damage to lines in the area of the collapse." Edwards added. "The building department for the county is going to be doing an examination of the remaining silos to determine their structural integrity."
