NORFOLK-Nearly 100 people had to be evacuated from three buildings Thursday morning because a construction crew hit a gas line in Norfolk.

Police blocked Village Avenue at Azalea Garden Road after incident was reported around 8:25 a.m. The crew was using a front-loader and hit a 2" line, said Battalion Chief Julian Williamson.

The evacuated buildings are owned by Bauer Compressors.

Virginia Natural Gas crews capped the leak around 10:15 a.m. and fire crews checked levels in the buildings to make surethey were safe for employees to return.
