PORTSMOUTH -- The Coast Guard and Navy worked to remove two buoys Tuesday that washed ashore during the recent storms that passed through Hampton Roads

The buoys washed ashore at Ocean View in Norfolk and Chick's Beach in Virginia Beach.

Navy assets from Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek towed the buoys off the beach and into the Chesapeake Bay, where a crew aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Frank Drew hoisted them aboard, assessed them for damage and then returned the buoys to their assigned navigational positions.

The Coast Guard asked that the public stay clear of the beached buoys, as they could be unstable and unsafe to climb.
