ACCOMACK COUNTY - Fire flared up Wednesday at a vacant motel destroyed by fire on Tuesday.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly.

Crews spent hours at the Whispering Pines motel Tuesday night on Tasley Road after arriving around 9:30 p.m.

Va. State Police say the preliminary investigation indicates the fire was intentionally set.

Bruce Willke and his wife were passing by when they saw the fire.

"Long before we got there, you could see the glow of the fire, you know, a quarter of a mile away," he said.

Police say the motel has been closed for an extensive period of time but a caretaker lives in a separate building from where the fire occurred.  He was not there at the time of the fire.

Police announced they were stepping up their patrols There have been nearly 70 arsons in the county since mid-November 2012. Police announced they were stepping up their patrols this week, but the random checkpoints were scheduled to end Tuesday night.

Polices say that despite rumors circulating currently, no arrest has been made in regards to the arson investigations. Police further explained that at the fire scene Tuesday a group of people gathered nearby and among them was a male subject wanted on unrelated charges from another jurisdiction in Virginia. That individual was taken into custody.

There is a $25,000.00 reward to the person who gives information that leads to an arrest and conviction
