The South African dubbed "The Blade Runner" became the first double amputee to compete in track and field at the Olympics. Some thought Oscar Pistorius' prosthetic blades would give him an advantage over able-bodied athletes. They did not. Pistorius failed to medal in either his individual or relay events. But, he went on to the Paralympics a couple weeks later and picked up two gold medals and a silver.
