There was a lot of excitement and hope that a 34-year drought in horse racing’s Triple Crown would end. “I'll Have Another” had already won the Kentucky Derby and The Preakness. But on June 8, it was announced that the colt would miss The Belmont Stakes with a swollen left front tendon. The last Triple Crown winner was “Affirmed” in 1978.
