WAKEFIELD---Plans for the new Route 460 could run right through a popular campground used by hundreds of Royal Rangers.

Local leaders in Wakefield have started a petition to keep the four-lane highway from crossing over Heavenly Waters Youth Camp off Boothe Road.

If nothing changes, church leaders could lose two-thirds of the park.

"It's really impacting us more than we even thought about from the beginning," said Queen Pope from Heavenly Waters.

The old highway is too narrow for truckers and transportation leaders will use the newer, wider version as a hurricane evacuation route for Hampton Roads.

Construction hasn't begun yet, and officials from the Virginia Department of Transportation haven't ruled out changing the plans.
