ACCOMACK CO. --The county Board of Supervisors voted to implement a ban on uncontained fires Wednesday night.
The ban is the result of a series of arsons that began last November and that now number over 70.
The ban exempts Chincoteague and Assateague islands, which are dealing with an infestation of pine bark beetles. Fire is used to burn timber infested by the insects. Campfires and contained trash fires are also exempted.
The ban includes all controlled burns in the area.
