CAPE HATTERAS-- A 30 ft. humpback whale was discovered near a beach in the Outer Banks Wednesday afternoon.

Karen Clark with the Outer Banks Marine Mammal Stranding Network told WVEC.com that the whale, which is alive, was found around noon and as of 6:30 p.m. was still in the water just off the beach.

Clark said the team will wait another tide cycle to see if the tide will take it back out to sea.  If the whale is still there Thursday morning,. a vet will be brought in to examine it.
