RICHMOND (AP) -- Six-month-old conjoined twins from Franklin are reported in stable condition after a 14-hour operation to surgically separate them.

Officials at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU said Tuesday the surgery also included the division of A'zhari and A'zhiah Jones' liver. They are in stable condition.

Dr. David Lanning, the surgeon-in-chief at Children's Hospital, says the medical team is "very optimistic" the twins will have a full and complete recovery.

The Jones twins were joined at the chest and abdomen.

"At this point we don't anticipate any future operations or need for any long term medications. I see the girls living full happy lives as individuals," he told WRIC-TV.
