CARTERET CO, NC -- An urgent search continues for a 12-year-old girl who may be with a registered sex offender.

An Amber Alert has been issued out of Cartaret County in eastern North Carolina for Abigale Lefevers.

Abigale is white, 5' 4", weighs about 90 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. She may be carrying a pink backpack with peace signs on it and she was wearing black Nike shoes

According to the ABC television station in that area, her father last saw her Sunday night at their home in Carteret County.

Investigators believe she's with 38-year-old Timothy Newman. He's white, 5'8" tall, weighs 210 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

The two may be traveling in a red '98 Chrysler Sebring with North Carolina plates AKT-6534. Authorities say its last known location was at around 1:42am Monday on US17 southbound near the South Carolina border.

Authorities believe the two may be traveling along the coast of South Carolina towards Florida. The state of Georgia has also issued an alert for Newman and the girl.

They say Newman is familiar with the Atlantic coast because his father was boat captain.

Abigale's father says this is yet another devastating blow to his family.

"To think that someone would take my 12 year old daughter away from me after her mother died last year."

Anyone who sees them should call 911 or the Carteret County Sheriff's Office at 252-504-4800.
