RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina man faces charges of pretending to be an officer in the U.S. Navy in a bid to land a job and get other perks.
Christopher E. Shrewsbury was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury in U.S. District Court.
The indictment says Shrewsbury passed himself off as a Navy officer in trying to get a job at a private school and lectured to a group of Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps students at the University of North Carolina.
Shrewsbury is free on a $50,000 bond. The telephone listed for his residence has been disconnected, and his attorney didn't immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
The 44-year-old did serve in the Navy at one point, but received a bad conduct discharge in 1989.
