RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Salvation Army says the disappearance of 300 new winter coats from its distribution center in Chesterfield County wasn't a theft after all.
An employee reported the coats stolen after noticing the garments weren't in a cordoned off area where they were supposed to be.
Salvation Army spokesman Jeff Baldwin says volunteers had given the coats to clients.
Chesterfield police department Lt. Tim Smith says the incident appears to have been a misunderstanding.
All the coats were donated last year and stored until this holiday season.
