ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — Flood warnings remain in effect in parts of western Virginia as rain pushes rivers above flood stage.

The National Weather Service says the Roanoke River crested nearly 4 feet above flood stage at Randolph and more than 3 feet above flood stage at Brookneal early Friday morning. The river crested less than a foot above flood stage at Altavista.

At South Boston, the Dan River was more than 7 feet above flood stage. The river is expected to continue to rise Friday before falling below flood stage over the weekend.

The James River is expected to rise above flood stage near Bremo Bluff and the Appomattox River is expected to top flood stage at Mattoax by Friday afternoon.

Creeks and streams have receded but high water is still possible on roads in low-lying areas.
