VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — Two seventh graders in Virginia are being suspended after school officials say they were shooting a pellet gun near a bus stop.
WAVY-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1b9NPZX) that the students at Larkspur Middle School were given long-term suspensions during a Tuesday hearing.
The suspensions will last until June, but a hearing will be held in January to determine if they'll be allowed back in school. Both students were offered the option of attending an alternative school.
The incident was first reported to police by a passer-by.
According to a statement from the principal, several students verified that they had been hit by pellets near the bus stop, giving the school jurisdiction to take disciplinary action.
But the parents of the children say the spring-driven airsoft gun was being used on private property.
