NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Norfolk State University has been barred from accepting new students into its associate-degree nursing program.
The Virginia Board of Nursing's order from low passage rates on the exam known as NCLEX for the past three years.
The board temporarily stayed an order withdrawing approval for NSU to operate the associate program, as long as certain conditions are met, including a higher exam pass rate.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/18gdxdz) that the order does not affect the Norfolk school's bachelor's program.
The decision is the latest trouble for the university. It has been unable to complete a financial audit for two consecutive fiscal years and is facing enrollment concerns amid uncertainties over interest rates on student loans.
