RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Virginia state parks should be buzzing with activity as they join in National Trails Day activities and the annual Clean the Bay event.
The two will be combined Saturday when the 20 state parks in the bay's watershed host Clean the Bay events. The annual event has drawn thousands of volunteers to remove millions of pounds of debris from Virginia's shoreline.
National Trails Day is sponsored by the American Hiking Society to encourage the public to learn about trails while participating in outdoor activities, clinics and trail projects. Special activities are planned at every state park, including Virginia's newest — Powhatan State Park. It's opening this summer.
Virginia has 35 state parks.
