CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Television journalist Katie Couric will be the University of Virginia's commencement speaker this weekend.
Couric's address will follow the academic procession that begins at 10 a.m. Sunday in Charlottesville. Couric graduated from U.Va. in 1979.
The university says it will award more than 6,400 degrees this weekend.
Former U.Va. women's basketball standout Val Ackerman was the scheduled speaker at Saturday's valedictory exercises. Ackerman graduated in 1981 and was the first president of the Women's National Basketball Association in 1996. She ran its daily operations for eight seasons.
