PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) — A $1.2 billion expansion of Fort Lee is expected to be completed by a Sept. 30 deadline.
Fifty-six new buildings are being added to the base under the Base Realignment and Closure Act in 2005. Project manager Fritz Brandt told The Progress-Index that 45 buildings have been constructed so far.
Remaining projects include four buildings on the Ordnance Campus, two barracks buildings, a munitions/explosive ordnance disposal facility, a parade field and a troop medical clinic.
Brandt says the remaining projects are scheduled to be completed by this summer. Furnishing the buildings and other "follow-on" activities could take a few extra months.
