SOUTHAMPTON CO. - One person was killed when a state vehicle and tractor trailer collided in Southampton around 11:30 a.m. Friday on Route 58 west at Rt. 258.

Police say 63-year-old Ormand Gregory Telford of Castalia, North Carolina was driving westbound when his flatbed tractor trailer hit the back of a VDOT truck, went off the road and struck several trees.  Telford died at the scene.

Police say Telford was not wearing a seatbelt and they don't believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The VDOT maintenance truck was parked and had signs indicating road work ahead.  The workers received minor injuries.

One lane on Rt. 58 was closed as crews worked to clear the vehicles. The Virginia State Police reconstruction team and motor carrier units are investigating.
