NORFOLK-We started Thursday by setting a record low temperature for the day. It fell to 7 degrees at Norfolk International overnight, which beats the low of 10 degrees set all the way back in 1934.

For this month, Norfolk has had 11.5 inches of snow, making it the sixth snowiest January on record.

Elizabeth City, North Carolina also set a record low at 7 degrees. The previous for the day was 9, also in 1934.

A combination of clear skies, calm wind and the snow pack contributed to the plunge.

Looking ahead, Thursday will be a cold day overall, with highs just in the lower to mid 30s. A warming trend begins Friday and continues into the weekend. That will start melting the snow and ice.
