RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina voters are choosing Republicans nominees in three congressional primary runoffs.
Elections Tuesday include a GOP runoff in the south-central 8th District. Tim D'Annunzio is running an antiestablishment campaign against retired sportscaster Harold Johnson. GOP leaders have supported Johnson since details of D'Annunzio's personal life surfaced, including reports he claimed to be the Messiah.
The winner faces first-term Democratic Rep. Larry Kissell.
Voters also are choosing between Bill Randall and Bernie Reeves to challenge Democratic Rep. Brad Miller in the district that stretches from Raleigh to Greensboro. And Scott Cumbie and Greg Dority vie to compete against Democratic Rep. Mel Watt in the district from Charlotte to the Triad.
