Republican Rick Snuffer is challenging incumbent Democrat Nick Rahall for the 3rd District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Here is a look at each candidate:

RICK SNUFFER

Age: 51

Hometown: Beckley

Occupation: Owner of home-building business Rick Snuffer Construction.

Political experience: Elected to West Virginia House of Delegates, 2010; Lost 3rd District general election to Rahall in 2004; lost U.S. Senate GOP nomination to John Raese in 2006.

Education: Regents bachelors of arts degree from Bluefield State College; Certificate of ministry from Word of Faith Leadership and Bible Institute in Dallas.

Endorsements: West Virginians for Life, West Virginia Farm Bureau, National Federal of Independent Businesses.

NICK J. RAHALL II

Age: 63.

Hometown: Beckley.

Occupation: Member, U.S. House of Representatives.

Political experience: Elected to Congress in 1976 and re-elected every two years since.

Education: Bachelor's degree from Duke University; attended graduate school at George Washington University.

Endorsements: United Mine Workers, West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, American Federation of Teachers, National Rifle Association.
