Crimes near ODU campus sparks safety concerns
06:04 PM EDT on Thursday, September 25, 2008
NORFOLK – Concerns about safety prompted Old Dominion University officials to hold a town meeting for students.
The move comes following a series of off-campus crimes, some where students were robbed, some cases at gunpoint.
In the first of two town halls Thursday, dozens of students heard the ODU police chief say patrols will be increased around the area until suspects are caught.
“In some ways, I feel better; in some ways, I am concerned. I feel like we should be taking a much stronger approach,” said Gurmeet Gill, a senior.
The second town hall, set for 7:00 p.m. Thursday, was cancelled because of the coastal storm.
Classes and university offices are expected to open tomorrow morning as usual.
It has not been rescheduled.
Meantime, classes and university offices are expected to open Friday as usual.
