NORFOLK – A man charged with killing his 12-year-old stepdaughter remains in jail.
At Thursday morning’s arraignment in Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Kentrell Sanderson was given a public defender.
He was officially charged Wednesday, four days after being taken into custody for the Saturday killing.
Sanderson, 26, is accused of killing the girl, who was found dead in their Pleasant Avenue apartment.
Sanderson was taken into custody shortly afterwards.
Neighbors say the girl's mother was screaming that something had happened to her daughter.
A balloon and flowers, part of a makeshift memorial, have been placed outside her apartment.
Sanderson is charged with murder and is due in court again on October 22, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney office.
