NEWPORT NEWS --One person and a pet died in connection with an early morning house fire.
Crews responded to a one story home in the 600 block of 73rd Street just before 3:30 a.m.
Firefighters found a 59-year-old man inside the home suffering from serious injuries.
According to a press release the victim was transported to a hospital and later died from his injuries.
A dog perished in the fire.
It's unclear what caused the fire, but investigators confirm there were no smoke detectors in the home.
