Worker dies after falling from ladder
10:14 AM EDT on Thursday, June 29, 2006
A man died Wednesday after falling off a ladder on the job at a Newport News apartment complex. Jason Maund, 25, was working on a second-story air conditioning unit at River Walk Apartments on Randolph Road. Authorities were called around 2:40 p.m. and Maund was pronounced dead minutes later. Police say there is an indication that Maund had been electrocuted; however, an autopsy is being done to determine how he died. Ebony Long lives in the apartment where he was working. "We heard a noise in the house and we looked out the window and sawa the man laying on the ground," she recalled. She said she spoke to him not long before he was killed. "I had gave him a hug cause I was like we had no air conditioning for a long time, so I was like thank you for coming out here and he gave me a hug back," she said. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
