Tactical situation in Newport News ends with arrest

NEWPORT NEWS -- A tactical situation in Newport News' East End ended Tuesday night with an arrest.

A Crime Line tip around 4:00 p.m. gave officers informatoin on the whereabouts of 21-year-old Clarence Edward Hill, Jr., a wanted man in Newport News.
When police officers arrived at the apartment on the 500 block of 19th Street, Hiill refused to come in, according to Lou Thurston, spokesman for the Newport News Police Department.
At this point, police called in a tactical team and negotiators. The tactical team fired a zinc powder at the lock, then stormed the apartment, Thurston said.
Police took Hill into custody without incident. There was no one else inside the residence at the time.
He was wanted in the city for two counts of forging a public document, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, buying or receiving stolen property, a probation violation, trespassing, having a concealed weapon and identity fraud.
Hill, of the 100 block of Lincoln Street, is currently in the Newport News City Jail.
