NORFOLK -- Norfolk Police are investigating the death of a two-year-old child.
Cpl. Melinda Wray says rescue crews were called to Druid Circle around 11 p.m. Thursday because the little boy was having a hard time breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene, she added.
An autopsy is being performed Friday in hopes of determining how the child died. Meantime, detectives are calling this case an undetermined death investigation.
"At this time, detectives are not actively searching for suspects," Cpl. Wray noted.
Wray said the mother was inside the home with the child and is being questioned as part of the investigation, which is standard procedure.
"She is not considered a suspect at this time," Wray said.
Willie Morring lives next door to the family and said didn't know what was going on when he saw sirens Thursday night.
He told 13News Now he has seen the boy playing in the backyard before.
"It's sad, you know. My daughter lost a child. He was one or two years old. But this kid was walking," Morring said.
